Affordable Wedding Reception Venues
Posted by jochan22 (228 days ago)
My fiance and I are not bankers or lawyers and we're paying for our own wedding reception. Any ideas for affordable reception venues for about 100 people? We are thinking low key but elegant...

we had ours at the happy valley race track. it cannot be on a race day, but it was FANTASTIC!
back then, 2000, we paid $280/person for all you can eat surf-n-turf buffet (rivaled the 5* hotels!) and an extra $100/person for all you can drink (house wine, beer, soda & oj)
their wait staff was excellent, attentive but not in your face about it. it was very elegant and we also had access to a huge terrace overlooking the track.
you do not need to be members to use the facility
you make no mention of your budget, but we were on a budget too. we would LOVE to go back again, just waiting for the 10th anniversary!

Great idea! We're having 2 weddings (actual ceremony and reception in Canada, then a reception in HK) so our budget for the HK one hasn't been set yet. I don't want to even bother with the 5 star hotels for the HK reception so I just need to see alternative venues in order to make an HK budget. does that make sense? Thanks for the info, I'll definately check it out.

we did exactly the same thing...had our "official wedding" here with a chinese party (kind of... hubby is local) and a "blessing" in canada.

I had a wedding recently in HK....quite expensive. My advice would probably have it a good chinese restaurant. The food would cost you a lot less than if you went to a western style restaurant. You could have awesome dim sum! Plus I dont think they charge as much for alchohol as the western restaurants do. In addition your overseas guests would probably enjoy the chinese style theme!!

the way the buffet worked at the race track was... you give them the # of guests. then they provide you with a list of possible food choices. you select the number of dishes for the number of guests.
so, if you have 50 guests, then you get 10 out of 20 choices etc.
it was great! we got to choose what we wanted and we had a good mixture of chinese and western.
personally, i don't think i'd want dim sum for a wedding reception. but maybe that's because i have it regularly. not to mention what my hubby's local friends & family would think. his mother would have had a fit! we had to bow to her wish not to lose "face" for the wedding.

No I agree, no dim sum. We are going with western or fusion food, thinking of the restaurant L16 in HK Park (above Pacific Place). I went to their website and the prices are really good for a buffet. We'll have to check it out in person first but has anyone ever been for a function there? How to they fare? (service, food, ambience, etc)
