My folks are coming to Singapore to visit before heading off to Vietnam for a week . I would like to arrange for them to go to Hanoi , before spending a few days sightseeeing , probably around the coast . I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions or ideas for them to see while they are there . Any ideas gratefully received !

I would not recommend hanoi during the winter. I was there before at xmas and it was very cold and gloomy and it rained most of the week i was there. Saigon is a better choice for this time of year and i think more to do and see

Have a look at www.handspan.com
We aren't tour type travelers, but this company was wonderful and very helpful! Definitely suggest the tour to Ha Long Bay. The Salute Hotel in Hanoi is very central and clean.

Living in Hanoi, I think there is lots to do here - museums, the old town. Bright and sunny the last few days - although on the cool side. Hasn't rained in some time now.
I would recommend a trip to Sapa (weekend to the mountains), Ba Trang Village (pottery village just outside of Ha Noi), Ha Long Bay (not so pleasant if it is cold and rainy). Farther afield - Hoi An on the central coast. Dak Lac in the central highlands (I have never been there but others speak highly of the area). Phu Quoc in the south is a nice island, some decent beaches, and is probably warm year around.
