pattaya recommendations

Has anyone flown into Bangkok and spent a weekend in Pattaya? Is it convenient to get there from the airport and are there any hotel recommendations?

You can get a car from the airport for about 2000baht ($60). Takes about 2 hours.

Amari or Sheraton are good.

I've heard mixed reviews about Pattaya. Is it possible to have a relaxing trip there? Is the beach really not nice?

Pattaya is full of tourists. If you are looking for beaches, you may want to consider "Hua Hin", which has gorgeous beaches for relaxing. Transport can be arranged at the airport, either private car or shared van. It's about 3 hrs ride.
