When to register for maternity at public hospitals

We are moving to HK in August and my wife will be 20-21 weeks by the time we arrive. How soon do we need to register at at public hospital? If we are living in Ap Lei Chau, would our hospital be Queen Mary? Thanks

If your wife is seeing a private OB then as late as possible. I registered at 32 weeks after seeing a private OB for the period before....FYI don't expect anything but a long wait and a 2 minute consultation to listen to the baby's heart beat at the public clinic. If your area is QM then your wife's prenatal visits will be at Tsan Yuk, in Sai Ying Pun.

Having your checkups and pregnancy in a local hospital is actually better than most people think would be, and is so much cheaper.

I agree that since its a local hospital, you would have to endure a long wait before your turn. but the cost of 1 private doctors consultation is even more than the 1 you pay for your local hospital visits AND YOUR DELIVERY!

The earlier you register the local hospital would require you to attend several pre-natal seminars. Registering late would leave you rushing it. Especially if you want your husband to be at your side during delivery because they would require your husband to attend 3 pre-natal seminars if he wants to be by your side at delivery.

They say (and there are a lot of them) that Queen Mary is the best hospital in HK in terms of giving birth.
