Nose Bleeding
Posted by Germaine WS (143 days ago)
Hi, is it normal for 1.5 years old to suffer from frequent nose bleed? Does anyone has similar experience.
My nephew has been suffering from nose bleed quite frequently, started when he was about 14months old.
His paed said it's ok. But is it???

Some kids do. I did until well into my teens. Blew my nose hard and off I went. Unless there are other symptoms there's really not much else to it.
Try not to blow the nose too hard or too much. Stop him from picking his nose. The latter can only be achieved if no one in the household picks their nose in front of him.
If a nosebleed starts, hold the head high and apply pressure to the nose (close it) with a kleenex or some such.

I had this as a child. The specialist said that my blood vessels were too close to the surface so the ENT lasered the vessels. I was 5 years old. I had to have it done twice. Before that I would have at least one nose bleed a day especially in summer. If I was too hot or if the weather was warm I would have it more frequent. Blowing my nose would also trigger it. Knowing that N gets quite hot and sensitive to the warm weather may make his blood vessels expand hence the nose bleed. Get it checked out again.

Thanks Amanda. It's not N. it's his cousin.

My daughter found if she was in airconditioning too much, she'd get nosebleeds. If you can increase the humidity of the room, it helps. Also, a wee smear of Vaseline up the nose can coat the inside and reduce the chance of bleeding.
