Ideas for a princess themed birthday party
Posted by MayC (168 days ago)
I'm organising a birthday party for my 4 year old mid next month.
It's going to be a small party with only 5 of her friends coming (all dressed up in princess outfits).
We have a small place and I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas to share on what I can do to entertain these princesses?
Thanks.

I am sure my friend had her daughter's 3rd party at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. I think they have some kind of tea party and the Princess characters come along at some point. Sorry I can't be of more help. My son also went to a party there with the theme of Princesses and Kings/Knights. It was just for kids so I wasn't invited! So again I can't tell you more.

you can
paint nails
make-up
glitter tattoos
make magic wands (more fairy than princess)
paint pictures (print them off the internet) and add glitter or use glitter glue
get fabric paint and have them paint the white t-shirts you buy at the market
keep your tissue boxes and toilet rolls to make a castle
get craft materials from http://www.school-solutions.com they deliver and have great prices. (pm me and i'll give you a code that will give you 10% off!)

book an animal show from http://edu.goateetoni.com/
they don't only have creepy crawlers but also some cute, furry adorable little animals like hedgehogs etc
btw the princess might want to kiss a frog... :)

Agree with Cara about painting nails, face paint, also a jewellry making table, you can pick up big boxes of beads very cheap. Decorating small cakes or biscuits. Kids that age still enjoy the classic party games, pass the parcel, musical statues. Make a disc of favouite disney songs from Ariel, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast etc to play for the games and to dance to.
Take a picture of each child in their dress up clothes, stick them on a piece of card and use them as the thank you notes, or a group shot always goes down well.

hi, thank you all for the recommendation.
I called Goatee Toni. I saw the website and loved it! Unfortunately he was VERY pricey :-(
I spent my weekend thinking about other alternatives and I came up with a few ideas already...
Cara - thank you for your offer. I'll have a look at what school-solutions have and will pm you once I've figured out what I need.
This is what I've done:-
I've bought pink and purple chiffon textile material to create a ballroom setting. I've bought some matching pink and purple balloons as well. And a row of pink fake flowers from my local floral shop. I've even bought a red table runner to double up as a red carpet at the entrance.
For the games, I will do the following:-
- Glitter Tattoos
- Pass the Parcel
- I've bought princess place mats (like the alphabet ones that babies use to crawl on) except it's with one princess per square - so I could play musical chairs with that
- Brown boxes from spotlights where the kids could creat their own jewellery boxes (except I've just discovered that water-based paints are useless in this so will need to purchase oil-based paints - I am painting them pink for the kids and will decorate with some flowers in the middle)
- I've bought a pop up princess castle they can play with. Good for taking a photo at the end too.
- I also have a princess song CD that I could play on the day.
Thank you so much for the ideas. Now it's just the cake. Anyone knows where I can get a princess cake that's not too expensive? Sweet Secrets just quoted me 1k for a small cake.

just an idea, why don't you bake some cupcakes and have the kids ice them with pink or purple icing (that you pre-make) and then put them all together on a plate and have THAT be your cake? you can give them candles for the birthday girl to blow out and then they can each eat their own cupcake.
you can buy nice edible cake toppers at citysuper and some bigger park'n'shops/wellcomes.

OR you make 2 round cakes... cut one of them in half and make a heart shape out of it, then apply pink icing over it and decorate it with little hearts/edible toppings/sprinkles.
i did this for my girl's 1st birthday and i made a funny shaped cake into a racetrack for my son's 3rd birthday. i even had a lightning mcqueen candle to top it off (from spotlight). they weren't as 'PERFECT' as a cake you might buy, but everyone commented on how nice they were and it cost a total of about $60.
(not including the candle)

Or get 3 sara lee pound cakes, place on a board, cover in butter icing (very easy to make, put a laminated 5r photo of your child in her princess clothes on top and cover the rest in small sweets, looks like a sweetie photo frame, takes about 10 minutes to put together, works for any party as you just change the picture to suit. Did one for my daughters 3rd birthday, and my sons 6th, dressed in his football kit.

cd, this is an excellent idea. I will try this. The 3 sara lee cakes would work well as a castle.. and her picture at the top, I'm sure she'll love this :-)
cara, thank you for your tips on icing and cake deco. ideas. With pink icing and sprinkles on the cake, topped with a picture of my daughter, I'm sure it'll look fabulous! What's more, I'm going to get my little girl to help me make it.

Yes the home made cakes don't always look as neat as shop brought ones, but even 4 years olds appreciate the effort you make especially if they can help.
The pound cakes work for any party, I've made the basic rectangle into a beach scene, just do half blue and half yellow butter icing, then put on small playmobile figures, cocktails umbrellas, a couple of little plastic sharks in the water, even a little painted surfboard. Also a Bob the Builder, a black road running through green butter icing with Bob the builder figures. Pirates of the carribbean, figures from Toys r us, blue sea with a little desert island. Just change the colour butter icing for the background, and get the small figures to suit the party theme.

Hi, I just wanted to write back to say that my daughter's birthday party went really well.
I bought some pink and purple "curtain" materials from Megabox and draped them around our chandelier to the four ends of our walls so that our place would look like a ballroom.
We bought some princess mats with "1 - 9" from Elle and we played musical chairs with those (well, err... we called them musical mats instead... chairs would be out of the question given the small space at our apartment). Any kid that was "out" got a present so none felt bad.
I also bought some brown boxes from Megabox and painted them myself using poster colours (they were all pink and one blue for our little prince). I bought fake flowers and stuck them on the boxes so they looked like jewellery boxes. Then I bought lots of stickers for the kids to decorate their boxes.
The kids I thik enjoyed that activity.
We also played pass the parcel.
I bought lots of gifts for the kids. Each kid received a tiara and a flower made of fabric. Our little prince had a sword (I bought the soft one from Toys R Us).
Overall I spent about HK$2k on the party (8 children) but it was worth it.
The party went for two hours and another half hour for the goodbyes.
The kids were asking why the party was so short... but those two hours were exhausting for me!
For the cake, we ended up with a Hello Kitty cake for HK$252 from Maxim. I was going to make my own but decided against it because I tried to bake one a week before and nobody ate it.
My daughter drew a picture of all her friends too with a tiara. I stuck these on the wall so the kids could see.
Although it was a lot of work, I think it was probably the best party I have ever organised - well, the smallest too ;-)
I'll probably have a home party again next year, but this time with 4 kids instead of 8! (we ended up with 20 adults and 8 kids at my place). I felt really bad for the adults who couldn't sit because we didn't have enough chairs although they told me over and over that they didn't mind! I gave each set of parents a little souvenir from Evelyn and Crabtree too!
I think I'll probably do something similar next year!
Thanks to all for all the good suggestions. They've really helped me A LOT!
