(I am based in Hong Kong) Find what you are after in our Beijing A-Z Directory  Posted by Matilda (388 days ago) There is a new technique called Birmingham Hip Resurfacing available at Matilda International Hospital (BHR) which is especially good for younger (under 60) active people. The problem with a conventional hip replacement being the lifespan of the new hip. The BHR uses metal on metal hips and leaves a lot of the bone in place making it easier should a total replacement be needed in later life.It also gives a better range of movement due to the mechanics but is not suitable for all and it depends on the amount of oseoporosis involved. (I am based in Hong Kong) Posted by Chris Malone (387 days ago) Thanks. But I am 68, so am not worried about the lifespan of a new hip - it will surely outlive me. But I like the idea of "a better range of movement". Do you have any ideas about conventional hip replacements? Cost is a concern - I have been quoted about 30,000 RMB in China - much less than in my home country, the U.S.. But I want to make sure I am choosing the right hospital.
