Advice for move to Beijing

My office is relocating to Beijing and I would like to get some costs figures to prepare for negotiations with my boss.

1. Cost of relocating to Beijing from Singapore (or back).

2. Rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in the city (office is near Sanlitun) so ideally if I can find a place within walking distance. Will rent include service fee, Internet access & utilities?

3. A reasonable cost of living allowance?

Just some rough numbers for a quick reference at this stage.

Here are some answers to your questions:

1. Cost of relocation (moving household goods) depends on the volume (measured in cubic meters) of the shipment from SG to BJ.
Other cost you need to factor into your calculation: Immigration (applying for work/ residence permit etc.) approx. USD 800-1000 (ball park figure without knowing more details); temporary accomodation (hotel or service apt).

2. Renting a 2-bedroom apartment in the Salitun area ranges from approx USD 1,100 to USD 2,500 depending on the compound. Management fee is normally included. Whether internet access and utilities are included is subject to negotiations with the landlord.

3. Cost of living allowance depends on the relocation policy of your company. Some companies pay a premium as they consider BJ as a hardship posting, but this is not always the case.
