Moving to Beijing in December
Posted by Gothicmum (823 days ago)
Hi everyone.
I am full time housewife with 3 kids age 4yrs+,3yrs+ and 11 old month baby. We are moving to Beijing in December. This is my first posting overseas(Eventhough it's still in Asea). This is a very big step for me. I am moving out from my comfort zone and it's scary me.I am very quite and shy person.
I would like to get some advice about:-
1,
International school. I check the website and found two. BISS and ISB. And I am a bit confuse with this two school. What the different?
2,
Apartment and House, is House more expensive then Apartment? I prefer to stay in a house coz I have 3 young kids and not use to stay in high building. But coz of my husband co. budget not that high, is that possible to rent a house for US2000 - US3000? with 4 bedroom?
Thanks for your time and advices.
best regards.

Hi
BISS is a Singaporean school. They use IB program. ISB is an American school. They use American curriculum. There are also a few other international schools besides those two mentioned. Do a goggle search on international school Beijing, and you will see many schools pop up.
Re housing, in my opinion, your budget is on the low side but its possible to find a house but maybe the facilities will be lacking like club house, pool etc. Also you may be able to find a good size house with that budget in an older compound ie 10 years or older.
Feel free to pm me if you have more questions. My family and I moved here in May 06 and went through all the common questions that hit a family during relocation.

I think ISB is better.ISB is located in Shunyi area, and there are a lot of villas(like Riviera,East Lake,Dragon Bay...).As far as I know, many foreigners like you are living there. They all send their children to ISB school.
Don't be shy, chinese people are friendly,at least I am^_^.If you live in Shunyi area, you will still feel you are living in your own counry.Coz most of your neighbors are western people.

Congrats on your find and welcome to Beijing! Chaoyang area has many apartment complexes catered for expats like Palm Springs, Park Avenue, Beijing Golf etc. There is also an international school for smaller kiddies like yours in Palm Springs.
