Utility Bills In Beijing
Posted by Reedsters (1028 days ago)
We are expats moving to Beijing and would like to know an average gas, electricity and water charge per month. There will be just myself and my wife.

Here in GZ a gas cylinder costs 88 rmb. That will last you more than a month. Water is cheap. Drinking water in 18 litre jugs, which fit in a dispenser, cost 15 rmb each. If you pay for 30 ahead of time, you get some for free. They give you tickets for the ones you pay for. Electricity depends on how much you use your AC and heater. 500-1500rmb a month.

These utility bills shouldn't even be a concern. The cost per month for water, gas and power is extremely low, even here in Beijing. Compared to Canada, it's unbelievable. So, don't worry too much about it. Once you get here and pay your first bill, you'll see what I mean.

You might also want to negotiate with landlord to include all your utilities bills like heating, electricity and water (except drinking water and telephone). Also negotiate to include broadband/internet in rent. Save the trouble of going to various places paying them - I hear it can be quite a hassle paying bills.

I paid my building management 500 RMB maybe two months ago and have been running air filters, humidifiers, and a number of other electrical devices almost 24/7 and still am not near running out. Utility fees are pretty negligable. Broadband and telephone charges (not including cell phone) might run you about 200/month, depending on where you are.
