I am also very much interested in getting a bike; question the license plate "A" is the best but also the most expensive; i heard 30,000 RMB! Does anyone know? What about the upside down/double license plate from Hebei; i've seen a lot of those.
What if the cops stop you with this licence plate? Can they take away the bike? What about driving licence?

without the "A" plate you can enter into the fourth ring road area, outsid of that its ok. most of the hebei plates around are fake and usually you arent bothered by the police unless ur bike is stolen or u have some trafic violation. the price for the beijing "A" that i heard is around 5000 rmb extra certainly not the price you quote.
for the driving license, if you have a valid license of your country then you only need to give the written computer based exam. which is easly to pass if you have "the book" otherwise you have to register in some driving school and pass the exam and the road test, and its more expensive.
"the book" is available in many languages if you want to give the exam in english i could sell you mine for a lesser price...
