Has anyone heard of, or know much about the Beijing Culture and Language University. I'm an Australian interested in learning mandarin for b/w 1-6 months in China (not too expensive).

I think it's about USD1,400-1,500 per five-month semester. That'll give you about four classes per day.

I highly recommend learning your beginning Mandarin from a NATIVE ENGLISH speaker, moreover, someone good with language and linguistics.

He or she can make your introduction to Chinese much smoother, and answer more questions, thinking in the same logic style as you.

Then, later, move up to a Native Chinese teacher.

That's my advice.
