Student finding apartment

I am a student heading to Beijing in October to do research on bicycling culture in the city. I am on a pretty tight budget and looking for a decent yet cheap place to stay, ideally near the ChaoYang district, but I am open for any advice anyone can offer. Where is a good place? What is a decent price to pay? Any tips? Thanks for the help.
