Hi the section here on domestic help is useful, I think its under resources. I emailed several (lots didnt reply! dont think they checked their emails) but there was one called Jenalyn who sounded very professional (she is still on there if you want to check her out). I didnt take her on as I had just agreed through an agency to take on a local lady (the agencies are advertised in all the expat magazines that you can get in BJ, There were two main ones that I saw, I dont think I am allowed to list them here as it is advertising).
I am very pleased with the lady we hired. We choose to go through an agency as they deal with the pay, references and any extra training etc so its less hassle for us and we had the option of them finding us another Ayi (domestic helper) straight away if this lady didnt work out. I interviewed her first to make sure we both knew what was required and what we both expected and I have been very impressed with her work and attitude. I think it may be slightly more expensive going through an agency (I havent found this but I have been told) but its sooooo cheap here anyway its worth it. I wouldnt worry about trying to find someone till you are actually here though, the whole process from contacting the agency to our Ayi starting took less than two weeks.
Things to consider, The hours you want them to work, How many days, Do you need them to speak English, Do you need them to be able to cook western food, Do you need someone to care for children/baby, are you prepared to train them up abit, check references and previous experience (have they worked for westerner before), I also found it useful to email my requirements to the individual or agency to get an salary estimate. This gives you an idea of what they expect and you can decide if you are prepared to pay. As with everything in China the first price you get offered is never the last price you should pay.
I hope you are as lucky as I was. Hope this helps!
