Best area of the town
Posted by brother (1306 days ago)
Hello everybody.
I'm going to relocate soon in Beijing.
What do you think is the best place to live, having in mind that for the past 3 years I was staying in Greenwich Village, Manhatan, NYC.
Is there a similar place?
Thanks.

If you want "Greenwich Village", why not stay in New York. There is no similar place in Beijing to be honest. Most people come to Beijing and PR China to experience something new, and not just do replicated back home in another country. You may benefit from leaving your NYC preconceptions behind you....you'll get a lot more out of this place if you do IMO.

Rolf,
The fact that I'm leaving behind NYC, means that I do want to experience something new, and I'm sure Beijing will offer quite a lot of such experiences, bad or good. My question, probably not so well written, aims at understanding where the upmarket downtown area is, and not at trying to satisfy my "snobish" home country preconceptions. If did want to act this way, I would let my company get me an apartment at those western xpat "ghetto's" lying outside the town.
