Cable/Satellite TV Programmes
Posted by gormenghast (1404 days ago)
Hello
How do I get access to overseas programmes that are not dubbed in Chinese? For example, watching Star Sports commentary in original English audio.
Also, I don't seem to be getting a wide range of overseas channels like BBC Prime, German DV, Australian ABC, Singapore ChannelNewsAsia, etc..
I mean I know there are much more to just CNN and HBO! One more thing, I notice the HBO movies broadcast here are alot more outdated than other countries like Vietnam.
I've heard from someone that he managed to buy a personal TV satellite dish to load all the overseas programmes possible. He said that his version of HBO is from Philippines as he taps to their frequency.
Any ideas ???
Thanks.

Me too. I will be most grateful.
In the meantime, I will try to get in touch with that person I met who told me about his personal satellite dish thingy.
Oh yes, did I mentioned CNBC, MTV (non-Mandarin!) and Discovery Travel and Science, etc..
Please advise.
Thanks.

Check out the ads in That's Beijing or City Weekend - there's always a few contacts in there for the Sat dishes. I get flyers pushed into my letter box at annoyingly frequent intervals - again with the Philippine channels available and all the Sport/news channels too.
Linda M. - if your hubby wants to watch Star Sports with English commentary, then boot him out of the house and send him to Franks, The Den or Club Football ;) Good food, beer and footie/rugby at all 3.

Where's Franks and Club Football?
Could you pass on the contact info from those annoying flyers you get from letter box? An email address would be good. Will go check out the magazines you mentioned.
Thanks alot!

Frank's Place is just opposite the Workers Stadium east side, near Sanlitun, 50m south of City Hotel and The Den (big Kyocera sign on top of hotel; Club Football is on ChunXiu Road, at the Red House Hotel. Goose and Duck nr Chaoyang Park West entrance is supposed to be ok for live sport too.
I'll keep an eye out for the flyers and will post back....sod's law - I won't get one for the next 3 months!!

Gormenghast, the flyer people never let you down....just had a flurry of rubbish yesterday! Contact no. for satellite installation :13001066655. There's also Jeffery t:13301122745 e:phq8@tom.com who advertises in City Weekend, but you've probably seen that already.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I got the Jeffrey contact from City weekend. He doesn't seemed to understand my questions on email. The first contact you gave says the channel listing are on his flyers. As I don't have it, I need him to send me one. Haha.. Haven't received yet. But the irony is that I need his flyer in my mail box as opposed to you not wanting any!
