I don’ t see you will cost that much if we only take into the account of the relating fees occurred on the side of Chinese customs. If you want to bring a cat or a dog into China(each passenger is allowed to bring one pet, either a cat or a dog), you will be required to have an official animal health certificate and immunity certificate for rabies issued from the country you come from(this fee will be charged in the country you are staying now, so we don’t know how much). Additionally, your pet must also undergo a 15-to-30-day quarantine at a special facility at the entry port set up by Beijing municipal government. If the pet, let’s say your dog, has been approved of entering into the city, you will have to apply for a dog license with the local police. But usually this will be done under the help of your landlord. For a “hukou”(permanent residence) is necessary when applying for a dog license. Alternatively, you can have a local friend with a “hukou” register the dog. The majors fees involved are usually as followings:
Quarantine fee at the entry port:
26 RMB---the cost for site quarantine at the airport
1,000 RMB --- the cost for 30-day kennel at the quarantine department
Dog Registration fee at the local police department:
1,000RMB---initial registration fee for the first year
500 RMB--- annual fee of the following years
