Mandarin Courses
Posted by jennid (452 days ago)
Hi,
I am a freelance journalist and thinking of moving to Beijing next year. In the meantime I want to come in September for a month or so to check it out and to learn some Chinese. Does anyone know where I could do a short-term language course for perhaps two weeks at beginner level ?
thanks

Hi,
I'm from the UK and based on my personal experience as somebody trying to learn Mandarin in Beijing I suggest that you try Frontiers.
You can find their contact details (and some other ok schools) on this page http://www.china-expert.org/Chinese-Speak-it-like-a-native
Good luck and welcome to Beijing

Hi,
What have people paid for quality language instruction at private schools in China? Frontiers didn:t have any pricing info listed on the website - I just want to get a feel what different people might have paid, and whether they were happy with what they learned.

When I studied Chinese two years ago I paid 12 yuan per hour. I loved the classes and the class sizes were quite small (usually less than five or six students) I recently went back to the school to refer it to a friend and found that the prices have not changed, but the class sizes are considerably larger (usually 10 or more students)

Frontiers charge 1,000RMb for 40 hours but I think this is a special offer for their afternoon classes. Why not drop them an e-mail and ask? I thought that they were very good.
