Kindergarten/Preschools in Shanghai
Posted by banana (1556 days ago)
I have a 4 year old boy and a 2 year old girl that are half Chinese/
half Caucasian. My husband and I are both Canadian born and
raised. We would like our children to either attend an International
school with a strong Mandarin emphasis or a complete Mandarin
school accustomed to accepting non-Mandarin as a first language
students. The school needs to have a well rounded curiculum ie.
academic and sport/music, preferably IB. Any suggestions?

I have a 3 yr old and 5 yr old boy. just gone thro' that maddness of finding them good schools in SHH. We'll be moving there mid Aug. For strong Mandarin emphasis, Yew Chung is a good choice with many options in terms of stream and campus. But cost is high. Our boys speaks English as their first language, but also learn Mandarin in kindergarten while in HK. We finally decided on a local school which takes in "foreign students', there are a few in SHH doing that, offering something in between international schools and local schools.

Did you look into SCIS Summer Program for 2005? (Shanghai Community International Schools) They have a 4-week Fun Camp or Mandarin Camp. I was hoping my almost 4 year old son could attend but he doesn't quite make the age cut off at this time.

I am a kindergarten teacher and have worked at several schools around Shanghai. Depending on where you will be living the few schools that are top notch and cater to both forigners and chinese I would recommend are: 3&3 Bilingual Kindergarten, Kinderworld, Tiny Tots, Tweety's English School(believe the name may have been changed to Ladder English School ), Fortune Kindergarten. They all have excellent programs.
